ROBOTERA

ROBOTERA (星动纪元) is a Chinese robotics company incubated by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) at Tsinghua University, founded in August 2023 by Professor Chen Jianyu. It is the sole humanoid robotics company in which Tsinghua University holds a stake. The company brands itself as the "definer of native general-purpose embodied intelligence" and develops a full stack: a Robot Foundation Model trained jointly on large-scale video and robot data, a humanoid hardware platform designed for AI, and a fully direct-drive multi-finger dexterous hand. Its product portfolio includes the full-size bipedal L7, the STAR1 humanoid (August 2024), the Q5 service robot, and the XHAND1 hand featuring 12 independent DoF and 3D tactile sensors. Its Xiaoxing Max became the first humanoid robot to climb the Great Wall (June 2024), and STAR1 completed a Hexi Corridor traverse (mountains, grasslands, Gobi, highways) in October 2024. ROBOTERA raised over 100M RMB in an angel round (January 2024) and nearly 300M RMB in a Pre-A round (October 2024). R&D personnel exceed 80% of headcount, with team members from Tsinghua, Peking University, BIT, HIT, UC Berkeley, and NUS.
